Besides being a professionally published novelist, essayist, poet, short story writer, and editor, I am a public school teacher with a degree in applied linguistics and a masters in TESOL. I am New York State certified with over twenty years of experience teaching second through twelfth grade in Seoul, Rochester, and New York City.
Much of my work has gravitated to the telling and comprehension of stories. I have developed my own curriculum materials to assist with language learning, focusing on how characters change and show their emotions. For the last twelve years, I have been a lead organizer and a novel critique group host for Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers, the largest and most active speculative fiction writing organization in New York City. Through Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers, I founded the Constellations Mentorship Program. Professionally published speculative fiction authors mentor alumni of the Octavia Project, a summer camp for girls and non-binary teens to explore their world through STEM and speculative fiction.
